  1. The drawbacks of having a social media resume are it’s not good to mix business with personal you should never blend the two. Another drawback is it turns employers off and confuses them because they don’t know if it’s a personal social media or a business one. A benefit could be you having A lot of friends in your social media outlet and by posting your resume all of your friends get to see it and by word of mouth more people will hear about it and there might be an employer interested in hiring you.

I disagreed because i think it’s better and also a great advantage to show your personality little bit through your resume. Depending on how you write, what you chose to show and so on, experienced HR people are able to find the most fitted-employee and get to know you more and they may feel more connected to you therefore it’s a great advantage.

  2. my opinion of a draw back is mixing business with personal. to me it is very important you keep the two separate. you dont want future or present business employees or employers get the wrong impression or think its ok to interfere in your personal life.
plus it is more professional to have a resume showing your credentials and work ethics.

  4. In China, most of people love to write social media resume to other companies. It is convenient and fast because you could share hyperlinks your photos, videos and papers and so on. At the same time, people also update information timely. Of course, to the extent, personal information would be exposed like telephone number, address and email. However, you just need to delivery resumes to some companies you like, and it is better to delete resume when you refused or do not get respond from company. I don’t think write freak information could protect yourself, but when you receive interview from company, clean some information in the web as soon as possibility.

  5. The benefits of a social media resume are:
    • Social media resumes can look very impressing and refreshing.
    • They can make you stand out more than the typical type of resumes.
    • They allow you to show the place you are applying to more about you versus how you are not able to put a lot of things that you’ve done on paper resumes.
    • Gives you the opportunity to show videos of things you have actually done
    • Gives employers a visual aspect of who you are

    Some drawbacks are:
    • Some employers might not think certain things on your social media resumes are professional (pictures, videos, posts)
    • Some employers might prefer paper resumes
    • It could be too many things on the page and the employer might not know where to look or what to pay attention to.

Social media is a good way to performance the person’s actually life and thinking that is very important place for understanding of your employer, because almost time the resume is limit resources of personal information, you probably cannot tall too much in your resume. It is more serious and professional, but sometime your life experience is more important in your work place. The social media resume is a great benefits to your additional experience.
On the other hand, there are some drawbacks which we need to face it. Almost of us are not just start using social media, thus, we probably have earlier negative post on the social media that will be a risk for your employer, also we are in this digital era, post information become our habit that also a risk to post something which not the company want. Thereby maybe we need to clean up all earlier post for some job.

Using social media resume,it speed up the process of applying a job even time consuming. It makes you visible to employer everywhere also creating a professional network. It allows more room for creativity and build it unique so that first impression can attract employers.
On the other hand, there is a chance of lack of information hacking, don’t provide physical mailing address. It can’t be tailored for all companies rather than respond to specific opportunities.

But social media marketing is mainly dependent on the Internet, so its audience crowd is always a minority, non-mainstream crowd. His influence is bound smaller than the less traditional television, newspapers and other come.

I think it will depend on what kind of company you are applying for, if it’s a high-tech company yes, of course your social media resume will impress them, if it’s some type of accounting firms or other traditional office oriented kind of company, you may want to think twice. Some advantages of social media resume are, you are able to show your skills, your best strength, and show your personality through your resume. Also great analytic people can find out more about you through this, depending on how you write and made your resume some experienced professionals are able to tell more than you think.
But the other side of the coin is, your lack of privacy, once you send it out, you never know when you are gonna see your resume floating on internet, the range of company that you would like to apply will be little short because it is still new to the industry and you may tried too much that you might present yourself little misrepresent.

  19. One of the benefits of putting your resume on social media is that it is easily accessible to potential employers. Not only that, some people you know on that site may see your resume and be able to recommend you to a certain employer. One of the drawbacks is that your resume holds some of your personal information that is only meant for your employer to see. Everyone that you have on social media does not need to know your exact address and phone number. Another drawback of having your resume on social media is that some employers may find it unprofessional.

  22. One of the big drawbacks of having a social media resume would be letting the experience speak for itself. As a Human Resources representative at an organization, I look at resumes daily and I am introduced to people and the skills they possess. This allows to me to make decisions on call backs based on the quality of a resume.

A social media resume could put too much information forward and place a face with the name. Unfortunately, we always have to worry about discrimination and put ourselves in situations in which companies or people could potentially disqualify a candidate due to their look and not their skill. I think this would be a major drawback.

  23. It Shows You’re Not Afraid of Technology.
    1. Online résumés are not constrained in length by the standard one or two pages.
    2. Online résumés can often have embedded video, images, audio and portfolio presentations. This can work to your advantage if the media you offer is relevant to the jobs for which you’re applying.
    3. Just as the media-rich virtual résumé is still in what may be a first wave of adopters, it may be particularly fruitful for people in non-standard careers, or the creative arts with visual and/or audio work product to demonstrate.
At the same time, beware of these potential pitfalls:
    1. Online résumés can’t be tailored for each company. You may wind up becoming too general to give the specifics necessary for any given job, and you may not get to reorder or tweak the résumé to respond to specific opportunities.
    2. If you’re going to include video, make certain that it’s very high quality in both form and content. Keep your messages brief, under two minutes. Otherwise you will be seen as a rank amateur and do yourself more harm than good.
    3. Many employers are reticent to even open résumés with candidate pictures as this can impinge on their efforts to document non-bias for all the various protected classes—race, sex, age, etc. Sites will often offer the employer the option to remove such identifying characteristics from résumés before they’re delivered.
    4. Online résumés are great bait for identity thieves or those seeking to do other kinds of harm. Beware of providing contact information that can aid them. Don’t provide your physical mailing address. You might create a unique email account for use with your online résumés, and keep all other communications away from that account.
